From October 2020 to August 2024, the HDB completed 87, or 94%, of pandemic-delayed projects.
On Monday (Sep 2), minister for national development and minister-in-charge of social services integration Desmond Lee stated it would complete the postponed projects “within the coming six months”.
“The pandemic severely disrupted our building programme, and construction delays have inconvenienced homebuyers and disrupted their life plans. He added that HDB colleagues, consultants, and contractors worked together for years to accomplish these delayed Build-To-Order (BTO) projects.
HDB plans to complete 18,000 apartments in 24 projects in 2024.
The housing authority has finished 10,500 units in 15 projects this year, 14 of which were postponed by the COVID-19 epidemic.
June saw the completion of the 353-unit Alkaff Breeze, Bidadari's second district after Woodleigh.
Alkaff Breeze is the first HDB BTO project finished on time this year. HDB claimed this showed a “steady recovery in the construction industry” after the epidemic.
As of Aug. 15, 290 households—85% of the 340 booked apartments at Alkaff Breeze—had collected their keys.
Another major project finished this year is Tampines GreenGem, a 1,086-unit building on 13 residential blocks near Tampines West MRT.
Tampines South's first housing project is GreenGem. Green efforts include recyclable garbage chutes and motion sensor-controlled smart energy-efficient lighting.
On August 15, 98% or 1,014 households of the 1,036 booked apartments at this development had received their keys.
