I drove past RV high and my wife commented that it looks like a flatted factory . The entire Boon Lay spruce up is catered to the large population of parapundeks and PRC working and living in Jurong area. The interesting thing is that most people living in that area have problems with their noses and seem immune to the acrid smell of factory fumes in the air.

    Default Centris

Get a life bro, get a life.

It pains me to see you always acting like a child here with all these low baller comments, will you pls grow up and give some constructive comments than putting down all those projects you deem as lousy, it seems that you had left lots of dirt all over this forum already with those crappy comments of yours.

If you think the place you are staying is great, pls share with us then, else stop behaving like a child here.

The fact is The Centris price holds well know, so if you are jealous and did not buy at low, just admit it, no one will laugh at you bro.

Personal preferences and budget always decide where one choose to stay. ignore those who just don't see the reason why you like it. prices for centris are holding very well too, so no point arguing with people who only say, but without the concrete numbers.

Go ENT and get your nose checked before your lungs get any worse. Health is more important than money, just a piece of friendly advice to you.

I used to travel to Boon Lay MRT/Jurong Point very often in the 90s as I studied in NTU and my army camp was located at that part of Singapore. There was this 'coco' smell which I was told it was from a perfume factory nearby. I tend to walk faster and go into enclosed area as I felt nauseous when I inhaled this smell.

I have not been there since I graduated. Is the smell still lingering at the premise?

Yes, the coco smell is still there. Can still smell it sometimes when I visit SAFRA Jurong.

Also, the smell is coming from the Cadbury chocolate factory.

For sure, the smell is there and is irritating.
But i don't think it is that harmful, else many thousands of our west's resident should have lung problem by now.

the smell is still lingering and even stronger. there is a mix of coco smell and tobacco and petrochemical fumes. Of course no doctor when diagnosing a patient living in jurong with lung cancer would dare say that factory fumes from jurong is the direct cause of it, but you and i know that cancer in the body is a prolonged build-up in the body and remember that our body is constantly fighting against these foreign agents. some people who have lousy immune systems will die faster than others coz their bodies easily succumb to these foreign agents. it doesnt mean that just because you can live to 70 in jurong means these foreign agents arent acting against your body, it is just that the person has better immune system that others to fight against these toxins. who would want to live in an area knowing that ur body is constantly having to battle against such toxins everyday. it is bloody bizzare that people are still talking about raising kids in that area or to spend their retirement in such a place. i can only wish residents in jurong the best of health. One more thing is that JTC still owns a lot of industrial land in jurong waiting to be converted to factories, so jurong west residents, keep ur fingers crossed that you do not get to smell other different "aromas" on top of those that have already been mentioned (that is if your noses are working at all).

This is very true, I am in the EPC industry, my company has participated in projects and tenders which call for plant improvements and modifications to air pollution control systems, you will be shocked to know that many plants in the West still do not have proper pollution controls which meet international standards, one of them being a very large rubbish incinerator which isl being upgraded to meet international standards for emission of dioxins, but this plant has already been operating for many years, so you can imagine the amount of dioxins breathed in by our dear friends in the West. There are also many, many plants whom we visited and were told not to visit after 6pm, as that was the time more wastes gases are being released.

Stay in the West at your own risk.

if that's the case, then the people working in the west shld be worried too.

maybe lots of ppl who stay in centris work in town or something? so effects are mitigated

If you work in town, there is even less of a need to stay in Jurong area.

What you mentioned have already been built into the price, accounting for the west side of the island being cheaper than the east.

That's the reason I have properties north, south, east, centre but so far not west.

Somehow it doesn't seem complete without a "west".

I think the only reason for buying into the West is for the large, albeit less well heeled, rental pool to tap into.

Sir, after you have bought your West and completed your mainland puzzle, please do remember to buy something in The Island too.

Punggol is equally bad, especially with pollution coming from the petrochemical plants at the shore of pasir gudand just across from Punggol.

You are right in choosing not to compromise on basic quality of life like air and if we can choose to live in a less polluted place in the first place, why choose to stay in a polluted industrial town knowing that your basic necessity, air, is being compromised. I am not saying that other parts of singapore are 100% pollution free, but they are at least better than jurong (with the exception of punggol)

    My reason is quite different.

    It's like what Property_Owner said ... "feeling".

I want to "feel" that I own a part of Singapore everywhere I go. But when I go Jurong, I don't feel "ownership" of Singapore.

Of course it would be best if I have 40+ properties like Property_Owner, then the coverage will be much better.

Then can have "feelings" every few hundred metres, rather than every few kilometres.

One Seven Palms condo in The Island will liquidate all my other properties around the mainland.

Then it will defeat the purpose I mentioned above.

Then everyday I will just be driving around Sentosa.

Not really... just below the other transacted range of around $800 psf now...

From caveats which may be lodged later.. not accurate at all...

Just a quick one on you.

    Oh! OK! Just normal transactions!

I thought they were new lows or new highs.

I will go cool myself down now after the excitement caused by your false alarm.

    Hi Bro

the above transactions are all penthouses and ground units, hence that explains why the low PSF, its pretty normal for such units to have low PSF.

Paying 1k psf for a factory-like condo in factory town is really nuts. i have never seen a condo that looks so cheapskate like centris (somemore in a cheapskate residential estate). I would rather buy Geylang at less than $600psf anytime than pay close to $1k psf for a "condo" in Jurong West extension all the way to factory land .....OMG....

Last time when i studied in NTU i thought the 'coco' smell in Jurong West was weird but still bearable. However, after 4 years of breathing that it honestly smells like burnt human flesh (to me anyway)

To each his own but I really buay tahan that smell anymore...quite sickening
