Paid parking sends strong signal to private home owners

    Jul 24, 2016

Paid parking in landed residential estates is long overdue and should be introduced as soon as possible ("Introduce paid parking to private estates?"; last Sunday).

This will send a strong message to car owners that the estate roads are public property and do not belong to them.

Often, owners put chairs or other objects on the road beside their homes to reserve the space. Some even place nasty warning notices on the windscreens of cars which are parked in that space.

Disputes are not uncommon when neighbours park their cars in front of another house.

Paid parking should dampen residents' urge to own more than one car.

It will also nudge them to park in their own garages, freeing up the road for a smoother drive.

Actually i agree that multi car owners should pay for it. But how to enforce. If they want to buy season parking to assign lot infront of their house also difficult right? Yesterday near my estate 2 big tree branches dropped onto 2 big cars and caused damages. How to compensate?

    Stupid forum letter....
Many of the inlet roads are private roads built on private land formally owned by developers for private properties' residents access and not belong to government, and these people asking government to impose car park charges on road that really does not belong to government? (we are not talking about private estates facing main roads built by government here).

Sounds very much like red-eye effect?
May be should jack up HDB car park charges even more so that they can get used to it and encourage these red-eye people to participate in a car-lite society?

Any of the roads on Singapore not regulated by LTA? If completely blocked (for valid or invalid reasons), do you call LTA or do you call developer???

It's not difficult but will be a headache to implement.

For example, the gantry can be installed at the main road entrance for each estate area, with parking charges implemented for all cars that enter and leave, and season parking allowed. Periodic check on the cars inside the estate etc...

But will be a hell of a headache to police this. Haha... Better not.
