Taiwan to levy "rich man's tax" on nearly 10,000 wealthiest people -

TAIPEI (AFP) - Taiwan has moved to levy a so-called "rich man's tax" on nearly 10,000 of the island's wealthiest people in a bid to narrow the income gap, officials said on Friday.

Under the proposal, those with annual net income of over NT$10 million (S$414,800), or the richest 1.5 per cent of individuals or families, will pay a 45 per cent income tax rate, up from the current 40 per cent, said the NONSPH;Asia@East Asia:

    finance ministry.

"We will raise taxes for the top (earners) and reduce taxes for low and modest income earners ... which will definitely improve the income distribution," Finance Minister Chang Sheng-ford told reporters.

Taiwan is funny. How u narrow the income gap by chasing the top earners away? They should steer the policies to get the top tier to invest in the country. Further creating jobs and bring the bottom earners up with new jobs n skills n opportunities.

    Wats Taiwan thinking?

Very worrying to see high taxes. For Asians high taxes are very discouraging, especially when you see tax dollars being spent to support, among others, initiatives that give certain people reasons not to work.

Singapore system for all its issues has a pretty efficient tax regime. Relatively low on the personal income tax front (only places like HK are lower, but marginally) and the tax is focused on consumption - GST, COE, etc. If you consume more, you pay more. Up to you to decide. That is always the best

Is it any wonder that Singapore citizens are not giving birth to more Singaporean babies!
And they still lamenting "don't know why?"!!!

To encourage more births, they should just exempt basic food stuffs, young children necessities and medicine from GST!

They know why, ROI too low for SC to have baby. You get the World to supply the manpower we need and when we don't need we just say thank you, you may go home.

LKY once say, for a SC baby to grow till the baby is productive it take 18+2+4 year and you don't know whether the baby will become productive or not.

    Default Sorry under state.

    http://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2...se-grads-told/

As the end of the school year nears, Chinese graduates are holding their breaths, hoping to find good—or at least okay—jobs before graduating in June. But one student from prestigious Peking University, Zhang Tianyi, isn’t among them. Instead, he’s happily opening up a small shop selling rice noodles.

In recent days, Communist-party mouthpiece the People’s Daily has been trying to promote Mr. Zhang’s story—perhaps as a way to preemptively warn graduates that they, too, might have to strike out on their own. This year, a record number of students will graduate from China’s campuses, and such competition has made job prospects for many dim. According to Yang Rengui, minister of education, 7.27 million students will graduate this year, up from last year’s record of 6.99 million.

I thought this already started through higher property taxes for properties with higher annual value? Tax the rich and wealthy:

It IS thoese highly educated young generations who are increasingly having an ENTITLEMENT mindset. They feel that they are smart and net savvy, but why are they working for someone else when their bosses are enjoying life, google facebook bosses. Buay song that they so highly educated yet life Is still so fked up in their own terms. So they whine and whine on forums, stage protest etc. What to do? They feel that they should be equally paid with the top brains in Admin Service.

SC not giving birth is becoz all want to enjoy life. study then when come out to work all want to cheong and cheong night scene. party. lifes a party till they it 30s then think of settle down . some even 40s still party. by the time they have kids either the support infra is no longer available i.e. parents too hold to help. have to hire maid or send to day care. then they feel siong. plus never plan party the years away.

like some jokers like like to blame GST. Its the LIFESTYLE duhhh. And frankly cost of brining up a kid is high becoz the parents expectations all sky high. want the most atas. Ask the folks send thier kids to PCF see how many want. All min want montessori lah , if not pats school house lah if not ethon house etc. then must KS go sign up enrichment lah etc.

Frankly its self inflicted cost. A lot are lifestyle choices.

U know what is the main concern of singaporeans? Transportation! Crowded! High property price! Competition from foreigners in work or school!
U know what happen when all foreigners r chase out? U can kiss goodbye to your property. U know why last election PAP lost a GRC? WP will do their very best to keep property even lower price and lesser foreigners. If not WP will be kick out.
U got read their blue paper? No population increase.

    Main concern of Singaporeans?
    Transportation? - agree.
High property price? - Don't agree, may be only that 10% who don't own properties and waiting to buy properties (hoping properties to crash).

I believe WP win Aljunied for other reasons, not because of high property prices. Can WP make property prices lower just in Aljunied? May be can, don't do any maintenance & cleaning in Aljunied GRC, property prices sure drop!

Furthermore, property prices dropping now not because of WP, but PAP policies. So come GE-2016 and WP win more seats because property prices dropped as "many people wish" due to PAP? Wow! Like that PAP score own goal?
