Likely during promotion period. Doubt they can survive for long at these prices. The landlords, owners n workers all need pay rise.

landlords and owners need pay rise. As for workers, they are suppose to be cheaper, better, and faster.

That day I bought half-duck from the stall opposite OG (Albert Complex), it cost me $18 and worst, it doesn't look like what I'm supposed to get, the duck looks lesser than that. Try to upload the photo but tried so many times, still cannot, use facebook to copy and paste, also have problem now.

Well the fact is cheap food do exist even in tiong baru market. So many. Unity chicken rice 1.99. Or $2.50 add sides. Wanton noodle $3.00, nasi lemak $2.50. And the list goes on in tiong baru.

That's the fact. Dont like it? Demand more quality? Morre quantity then pay more. Don't always say only ulu place have cheap food. Like some jokers keep saying. Tiong baru ulu? Then whole Singapore is ulu liao .

Last year, one of the Rochor Centre's coffee shop also selling $1.80 for a plate of chicken rice but now increase to $2 liao, still cheaper than my place (ulu area). 3 different coffee shops selling 3 different prices ranging from $2.30 to $3.00 per plate.

    this is just PR bullshit.

3-4 years ago, anana's cafe had been selling dirt cheap chicken rice at $1.50, but can't fill an average grown man's stomach. we didn't see overly enthusiastic grassroots leader or MP taking selfies or making a big hooha, simply because there's no bang in the story.

now........just to counteract the report that SG is one of the costliest city in the world........sigh......

Let's not kid ourselves. We know $1.80 is not the average price for a plate of chicken rice. Cafe Anana's $1.50 chicken rice is really sub par, you get what you pay for! And I don't believe $1.80 for the plate of chicken rice will last long (if really looks like the pic). So yeah, it's really PR bullsheet or just marketing!

I don't know anything about PR bullshit or not but I do come across the $1.80 chicken rice at Rochor Centre's coffee shop, the owner is a Malaysian. It lasts for few years and the plate of chicken rice is exactly the same as the picture shown here except that there is no "chicken spare parts" as shown on the picture. But no offence to the PRC, I do find that the food that sold by PRC owners are more expensive than the rest eg. in another coffee shop, a small plate of hor fun / fried rice cost $4 which we can easily get it at $3 at that time. In the end, I think nobody buy, so they reduce the price to $3.50.

To get that plate of $1.80 chicken rice which is not readily available in most other places in Singapore, are you going to spend $4 or more for the transport there, not to mention the 1-2 hours travelling time (and time is worth much more the money saved from that $1.80 chicken rice)!

Why is this so? Simple - Because there is NO cooling measures for commercial property prices!
Because JTC has been selling off their business properties to REITs and REITs jacking up rentals!
Because there is insufficient supply of business properties like coffee shops, hawker centres, retail shops!

GONG DAI! who said that the MP posted about ANSAN cafe?!
you're that stupid that you can't even copy the spelling correctly

anana's cafe had been selling $1.5/1.8 chicken rice since it's inception. in fact, there is one outlet at pasir ris MRT doing so since 4 years ago. same constituency, so why didn't any grassroots leader make a big hooha about it?

kam gong! it's a PR stunt gone awry, just like the $2.50 nasi padang

KAM GONG! no one is whining about michelin meals or chicken rice sets. by the way, there is NO 5-star michelin ratings - WAHAHAHAHAHA. GONG DAI!

so what is the post intended for? if i must explain the context of the post, then please kindly spare yourself further embarassment.
to help promote business for the chicken rice seller? definitely not
a random selfie? definitely not. if you think that our government acts without reason on impulse, please go have your brains examined. oh wait, forgot you don't have grey matter. WAHAHAHAHAH

a grassroot leader posting in a personal capacity is not PR, but when a deputy PM post in an official capacity - it is definitely not for private consumption.

    KAM GONG!

$2.5/3 average chicken rice set = 10-12 pieces of decent-sized meat + 1 normal rice bowl worth of rice

$1.8 chicken rice = 5-7 pieces of thinly sliced meat + 1 mini rice bowl worth of rice

to the consumer, what matters most is whether the meal is value-for-money. so what if it is cheap but does not fill the stomach. only a GONG DAI will look at price singularly and sing praises to the sky

The $1.80 chicken rice can fill a person. Just ask for lesser meat (reduce from 5 pieces to 3 pieces) add more rice.

Soon people will tell you have $1.20 per plate chicken rice! Each plate 3 tiny pieces of chicken meat and 3 mouthful of rice!
Anyway, it should be fine since property size has shrunk so small for dwarfs that these people must also eat like dwarfs otherwise can't squeeze into those dwarf houses!
