    Default Golden Rooster (Clementi)

I'm quite sure most people here can afford normal chicken rice. Very delicious chicken rice with generous serving of chicken parts.

on another note, my TEH-O-KOSONG-BING at bedok north (bak chor mee) hawker centre set me back by $1.50

the portion kenna shrunk by shrinking beam. in my undergrad days, the typical set of $4 gave me half a chicken and generous portion of rice. now, it's more like a 1/4 of a spring chicken or pigeon

It still gives generous serving relative to other chicken rice stalls. Chicken feed, labour cost, rental and utilities have gone up after so many years since your engineering undergrad days.

See - for affordability, portions of food shrink and price maintain !!!! Likewise, apartment sizes drop and price remain same...

If someone cannot have enough, top up with extra meat lor...

Look at degree holder salary when you started out and compare it with today??? is it higher????

well, i don't mind paying more - as long as there is value for money. even if prices went up by $1, it is still relatively cheaper compared to the likes of food republic.

years ago when i was on a study trip to taiwan, spoke to a local working adult about politics and economics and touched on the topic of pay. well, all i can say is they are pretty much held hostage by the cross-straits problem. on the good side, they don't really need to worry much about healthcare costs

KAM GONG! if what you said is true, they should have done it years ago! EPIC KAM GONG. people who like to seek good value?!?!?! like selfie afficionado Baey's $2.50 nasi padang.

and KAM GONG! whether you like it or not, it's a PR stunt gone wrong, as i've stated, as it stirred up the hornet's nest of negative sentiments from commoners.

want to argue - show us how the act has done good.

But no offence to the PRC, I do find that the food that sold by PRC owners are more expensive than the rest eg. in another coffee shop, a small plate of hor fun / fried rice cost $4 which we can easily get it at $3 at that time. In the end, I think nobody buy, so they reduce the price to $3.50.
Still around today? Today is the important timeline. I remember noodle once cost 20c. Ok, say 3-4yrs ago, hor fun from zichar was around $3.50. Now it's $5 and above. Think those who are still selling at $3.50 now are luggie and being stuck in times. They are going to adjust no matter what when rental goes up.

Hawker centre's food are cheaper than coffee shop and coffee shop's food are cheaper than food court. It depends on where you patronise. Few months back, I'm still able to get $3 hor fun with lots of ingredients, (prawns, pork, fish, sotong & vegetables). Now it cost $3.50, portion is still the same as $3 with the same ingredients. If I happen to go there for my lunch again, I'll try to take a photo of it to share here.

The crowd follows the crowd. One person increase, the other will follow. Just like previously, GST only increased by 2% but food sellers started to increase by at least 20%. Increasing of prices is an excuse that everything are expensive, they are actually earning more profit.

The $3.50 horfun looks nice! Back to topic, I was actually referring to zichar so hawker centrer is obviously cheaper. Hawker centers are owned by govt and rental is largely kept in check (they only have to deal with increasing food prices). However, zichar (coffeeshops) have to deal with increasing rental from greedy coffeeshop owners. Also must depend on where lar but it's safe to say that on the whole, prices are going up at an unsustainable rate. Can't expect everyone to travel around hunting for cheap food right?

Very soon hawker center also will increase price. Why leh? You said greedy syndrome what!

one thing you need to also take note is labour . zichar store typically is pretty labour intensive. Since the complain of no FT.. the labour crunch is causing many to close shop coz they just cannot get enough hands to run the ZiChar or increase price due to labour.
