They have to come Singapore find work coz dancing on stage make them more $$ working back in Taiwan coz there are limited job opportunities for the grads too. I come to know of these conversing with them some time back. Frankly we have it much better here.

years ago when i was on a study trip to taiwan, spoke to a local working adult about politics and economics and touched on the topic of pay. well, all i can say is they are pretty much held hostage by the cross-straits problem. on the good side, they don't really need to worry much about healthcare costs

I don't know anything about PR bullshit or not but I do come across the $1.80 chicken rice at Rochor Centre's coffee shop, the owner is a Malaysian. It lasts for few years and the plate of chicken rice is exactly the same as the picture shown here except that there is no "chicken spare parts" as shown on the picture. But no offence to the PRC, I do find that the food that sold by PRC owners are more expensive than the rest eg. in another coffee shop, a small plate of hor fun / fried rice cost $4 which we can easily get it at $3 at that time. In the end, I think nobody buy, so they reduce the price to $3.50.

Still around today? Today is the important timeline. I remember noodle once cost 20c. Ok, say 3-4yrs ago, hor fun from zichar was around $3.50. Now it's $5 and above. Think those who are still selling at $3.50 now are luggie and being stuck in times. They are going to adjust no matter what when rental goes up.

The crowd follows the crowd. One person increase, the other will follow. Just like previously, GST only increased by 2% but food sellers started to increase by at least 20%. Increasing of prices is an excuse that everything are expensive, they are actually earning more profit.

However, zichar (coffeeshops) have to deal with increasing rental from greedy coffeeshop owners. Also must depend on where lar but it's safe to say that on the whole, prices are going up at an unsustainable rate. Can't expect everyone to travel around hunting for cheap food right?

one thing you need to also take note is labour . zichar store typically is pretty labour intensive. Since the complain of no FT.. the labour crunch is causing many to close shop coz they just cannot get enough hands to run the ZiChar or increase price due to labour.
