Where does international property investment come from? We asked Real Capital Analytics to share their data on commercial real estate transactions over the last five years.

The map shows the top 25 destinations for foreign property investment between 2009 and 2013 and which country was the biggest investor in each. For example, Canada is the biggest investor in the U.S. while Singaporean investors have contributed most to projects in Brazil. Globally, it all adds up to hundreds of billions of dollars.

• Only property deals worth more than €5 million ($6.8 million) included.
• Only international investments included.
• Properties accounted for include apartments, hotels, offices, industrial complexes, retail, development sites and seniors housing.
• Data consists of all deals reported in the last five years.
• Hong Kong’s investment in Chinese property may represent Chinese money filtered through HK based investors.
