SINGAPORE: About a thousand blocks of flats and multi-storey carparks have been installed with police cameras since the project was rolled out in May last year.
Police say the project will reach all HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks by 2016.

Besides housing estates, areas such as Little India and Geylang will also see more cameras being installed, say the police.
Police add that more residents are also joining neighbourhood patrol teams.
The participation rate rose 15 per cent compared to one-and-a-half years ago.
There are now more than 600 resident patrol groups.

Nice idea, but can they do the job of maintenance and monitoring? MRT charging so much and yet poorly mantained.

Why do we need the cameras?

Has the crime rate gone up around the neighborhoods?
