SINGAPORE: Fewer real estate agents entered the industry last year, compared with 2012.
According to the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA), new entrants numbered 3,336 -- a drop of 1,200 from the year before.

Estate agencies Channel NewsAsia spoke to said that with the slowdown in the residential market, agents still found work in the commercial and industrial markets, as well as in home rentals.

And agencies have also used the slowdown to step up training.

Looking forward, while the total number of registered estate agents has remained fairly constant at 31,000 for the last three years, estate agencies Channel NewsAsia spoke to are expecting the number of agents to drop to around 29,000 by the end of the year.
