Heard that there was a delay for a few months because they were told to add one more level to the original design ( not sure if this is true or not ). So, they have to validate the structural design.

With the current hospital bed crunch situation, this news is certainly most welcome.

Default Ng Teng Fong hospital in the west promises rooms with a view

SINGAPORE — Greater privacy, spacious surroundings and hospital rooms with a view. These are some of the features all patients will get to enjoy, regardless of ward category, at the coming Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), which was designed to have an environment that is conducive to healing.

Its unique fan-shaped structure organises its patient beds in a staggered pattern, which creates greater privacy and allows every patient a view of nature. Several rooftop gardens will also be located around the hospital to make the patients’ stay more enjoyable.

The spacious wards will have natural ventilation, but patients in private wards can choose to use air-conditioning instead and set the temperature for their rooms individually.

The 700-bed hospital is set to open in December and will serve the 900,000-strong residential and business community in the West.

Speaking at the topping-out ceremony to mark the progress of the hospital’s construction, Mr Foo Hee Jug, Chief Executive Officer of Jurong Health Services — which manages the hospital — said such features will also be extended to critically-ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency wards.

To facilitate recovery, these patients will have exclusive access to an outdoor garden terrace where nurses can wheel them to on the fourth level of the hospital.

As the hospital’s staff look forward to its opening at the end of the year, Mr Foo said it was very important to have the right people who genuinely care for others in healthcare.

“Our Chairman and our Board have always reminded us to be guided by our vision, mission and to look out for people with the right values to serve,” he said.

“We will always act in the best interest of our patients to build a high level of trust with our community so that we can work together to improve their health,” he added.
