Default Singapore has 5th largest billionaire population in Asia

    http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/brea...-asia-20131106

Host to 27 billionaires, Singapore has the fifth largest billionaire population in Asia, and the 18th largest in the world, according to the Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census 2013.
This puts the city-state ahead of Taiwan, Indonesia and South Korea but behind China, India, Hong Kong and Japan.
Globally, there are 2,170 individuals who belong to this ultra rich category in 2013.

Their combined net worth more than doubled from US$3.1 trillion in 2009 to US$6.5 trillion in 2013 - enough to fund the United States budget deficit until 2024, and greater than the GDP of every country except the United States and China.

The typical Singapore billionaire is 64 years old, has at least a university degree and most likely made his wealth from finance, banking and investments.

Nearly 44 percent of Singapore's billionaires are self-made - more than double the percentage of selfmade billionaires in Hong Kong (20 percent). Only 15 percent inherited their wealth, while 41 percent inherited and subsequently grew their fortunes.

The report also showed that Singapore is a top city of residence in Asia for billionaires from China, India and Indonesia.

Total billionaire wealth in Asia surged nearly 13 percent, making it the fastest growing region. Asia also saw the highest percentage rise in billionaire population- 3.7 per cent from 2012. The region is forecast to catch up with North America in five years.

Europe is home to the most billionaires, with 766 individuals. However, North America has the most billionaire wealth at US$2,158 billion.
Asia contributed the largest number of new billionaires (18) this year, followed by North America (11).

As of 2013, the average net worth of the world's billionaires is US$3 billion.
The report showed that 60 percent of billionaires are self-made, while 40 percent inherited their wealth or grew their fortunes from inheritance.

Only 17 percent of female billionaires are self-made, while 71 percent gained their fortunes through inheritance.

The Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census is the second publication in this partnership, following the launch of the Wealth-X and UBS World Ultra Wealth Report 2013.

The global billionaire population is forecast to increase by 1,700 individuals to nearly 3,900 by the year 2020.
