(18 Apr) – By 2050, 38% of the population will be aged over 60. With a weightage of 6.1, just 0.5 away from Hong Kong SAR, Singapore is a potential market to explore for ageing business opportunities and turning social challenges to opportunities.

You're luckier than your kid. Think about it, by the time, your kid is 60 years old, will he or she has kids? And if not, who will serve NS?

Most likely, Singapore will be part of another country by 2050.

Not to worry. Have heard from a lot of youngsters.

They wouldnt want to live beyond 60... Rather a short n happening life than a long and duh one.

Such is the new gen mentality.

Better to have loved, enjoyed, partied and lost, than save the best for last (lost).

The longer you live, the more expenses you need. And in Singapore, where you are on your own in your old age with little government support (now many citizens are saying Singaporeans should not own an HDB flat and a private property at the same time; HDB flat is not for investment), it is better not to live too long. For me, late 60s and mid 70s is a nice age to "go".

How about a long and happening life? Imagine at age 100 you still look like 25 years old, winkle free, still can get gold for ippt, still can have fun making babies.

    we are not alone:

Portugal's fertility rate, which stood at 1.32 last year, has been below the 2.1 replacement rate - the number of children each woman needs to have to maintain current population levels - since the early 1980s.
In 2012, only 90,000 children were born, the lowest number in more than a century, as economic fears gave couples pause.
In short, ageing is pre- programmed. By 2050, Portugal is projected to have more people aged 60 or over than any other EU member - 40 per cent of the population against 24 per cent today.
