Default The population white paper?? Read between the lines!!

MM Lee called it the hard truth.

For the Chinese community, it was 1.02 in 2010, down from 1.14 in 2008 and 1.08 in 2009.

For the Malay community, it was 1.65 last year, down from 1.91 in 2008 and 1.82 in 2009.

The Indian community, too, has been facing declining fertility rates: 1.19 in 2008, 1.14 in 2009 and at 1.13 last year.

=> SG Chinese TFR could be already below 1.0 if you have not factored in new SCs from Malaysia and mainland China who tend to produce more children
=> that means many are not even married or married with no kid at all

What the PAP never say in the parliament is that they are preparing for Chinese TFR of 0.5

This sums it up nicely, a product of extreme pragmatism (and its education system):

These conditions, observes Vatsala Pant, a former Nielsen executive and long-time Singapore resident, create what amounts to an accounting-like mentality about their lives. “Singaporeans seem to be born with a calculator in their heads,” she notes. “Every decision seems to weighed in a cost and benefit analysis, including such things as family. If it’s not perfect, they don’t want it.”
