Default the worst disaster in NYC MTA history ...

NEW YORK, Oct 30, 2012 (AFP) - Surging seawater forced ashore by superstorm Sandy flooded seven New York subway tunnels and six bus garages in the worst disaster in the history of city transport, the network's chief said on Tuesday.

"The New York City subway system is 108 years old, but it has never faced a disaster as devastating as what we experienced last night," said Joseph Lhota, chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

    Singapore still better right?

I've been to US often for business trip but It has failed to trigger any thoughts of settling down there.

To me 新加坡是最好的。Just a little bit too hot these days.

I saw some house in NY and NJ, the rental is ok, but..... the property tax is killing. you have to pay $15K USD yearly endless..

can get 50% loan, but interest rate is 4.5%!!

Yes, i have to agree with you! 新加坡是最好的!!!

    Welcome home....SAFELY...

It is not easy to own good property in NY / NJ as most of the properties there are under co-operative and the price hardly drops.
Of course, the best buy are in mid town and those oversee Central Park.

Thanks. i'm looking for some one near the good 学区,so the tanent is much easier to manage and they usually tend to lease longer... the houses there are so nice, but i hesitated due to the maintenance cost - property tax, agent fee to manage, the mortgage cost (4.5%)... no much meat after all those costs...

rather see see first, and only make decision next year - my 2013

Huge hurricane. Never seen this size before. We will be gone if one fluke hurricane hits Singapore. Weather is getting more extreme.

I'm on cruise ship from montreal to new york. Sunday and Monday was docked in Boston while waiting for Sandy to blow over. Ship off to New York after the worse of the storm blew over on tuesday morning, supposed to arrive in New York this morning. Informed by captain that Port of New York closed due to damage, so ship is headed for Charleston North Carolina instead..., arriving tomorrow morning. What was a 10 day cruise became an 11 day cruise.

Seas are still rough yesterday.... threw out my lunch.. but all is good now...

Just as well we're missing New York, our flight out of la Guardia would not be flying as the airport is still flooded and transportation is in a mess....

But I must say that the americans are very accommodating in the face of disaster. Flights departing from NYC changed to Charleston without charge, prepaid (supposedly non-refundable) hotel rooms in New York refunded without fuss, ship threw in free satellite calls and internet....
