Default SC birthrate will hit 1.0 soon

At the dialogue session, 26-year-old Ms Gillian Neo, said, “Currently, infant care in Singapore is still quite expensive. Even the more affordable ones, after government subsidies, is still $700 a month.”

Mdm Halimah said that the biggest challenge the government faces is convincing couples that having children is important.

She said, “We can try to give more subsidy support and look at ways of improving the infrastructure (and) environment for our young people, but at the end of the day, I think it’s also important that they have to recognise these issues.”

=> wrong mindset ... giving birth is important but financial survival is even more important ... expect birth rate to hit 1.0 when BTO in AMK cost 500k

"We must work seriously towards achieving a good work-life balance so that younger Singaporeans do not feel that they have to choose either one or the other," said Prof Straughan.
She called for a review of the performance-based evaluation system.

"The current reward system encourages employees to overwork," she said. "For the social health and stability of Singapore, we must ensure that employers look towards human resource as a long-term investment and discourage short-term exploitation."

Some people in Singapore have different priorities.
Others procreate without thinking of how it will impact them and aspirations down to the very last cent. Family is more important than luxurious extras.

Those who think this is not important have the right to go extinct.
The problem is the govt keeps topping them up from outside source...
