Highly unlikely, perhaps for lawyers and IB ONLY.

    Others, highly unlikely.

(i'm grabbing all the numbers from you guys only hor... and play play punching the calculator... ... so dun flame me... )

say, start work at 2.7K, working for 6yrs, now 5K....

    estimated income for 6yrs,... (2.7K+5K)/2 * 72months = 277K
    after cpf deduction, 277K * 0.8 = ~220K...

any investments for last 5yrs (if not in properties) higher chances could be burnt jialat jialat....

200K may be achieveable, just stay with parents, meals sponsored by parents, 13-month aws/bonus used to pay income tax... no entertainment, no hp, dating expenses paid by gf....

Quite similar but mine mainly is because of my stocks gain. My salary started in 1997 at $2k and jump to $2.5k, $3.1k, $3.7k, $4.5k every year. I have worked only 6yrs in my lifetime.. these are the 6years.. If I had stayed on and work 10yrs of my life.. it might be $2k compounded at 20% = $12k.

Regret quitting coz I now discovered the joy of having a good social life at work while earning free money (in exchange for my time).

Of course.. even better if you become self-employed where the sky is the limit. Property agents seems to be a good fit for investors

Lol.. I have been absent from job market for 5 yrs now and reaching 40yrs old.

I have just sent out to job agencies offering to give them 1 month of my pay as incentive if they placed me successfully. So far, no one called.. hehe .. Maybe I should offer 2 months of salary. I just need to get one foot into the job market.. but Looks like it's true.. for ordinary people with ordinary skills, once you reach 40yrs old, you can only become property agents, insurance agents and taxi drivers.

bro focus, I asked bcoz I am at where you were 4 yrs ago.

what do u say when they ask why u have taken such a long break?

I can think of some unverifiable explanation.

    take care of relative
    round world tour
    religious reason
    further spiritual studies
    care of ill pets
    volunteering
wrote a book but not published

lol.. I couldn't associate the Audi with A4 when i saw the post..
Ya, car is really a liability in Singapore.

A car is a downpayment for a condo, a full payment for a KL apt.. But just a car in Singapore that is 10yrs LH..

But .. the scary thing is... 30 ferraris costing >$1m snapped up ...
I go katong mall on a normal weekday.. i see 2 bentleys ...
I go old air port road to buy lunch.. i see ferraris and bentleys and maseratis and lambo...

The amount of rich people in singapore scares me... I think Cars will become a thing for the rich .. we might all be taking trains and buses and taxis soon.

    Well.. congrats!
At least you get interviews and asked why you have taken such long breaks.

A part of me really wanted to say take a sabbatical... but I know I cannot pull it off.. so the best answer would be Personal matters. If you have to ask.. i already told you..it's personal.. which part of personal you do not understand? .. lol.. No wonder they say sinkies workers have attitudes.

Luck or skill... Depends on whether the market is in one's way or not
Most would associate success with skill & failure with bad luck; given a choice I rather be lucky than skillful
