Back during my time, my Sec school allowance was $24 per month but my school was within walking distance, so no transport cost incurred.

    Now I give my kids:-
    Primary - $2
    Secondary - $4
    Poly - $6 (son) & $10 (daughter) - because of food inflation
Uni - $400 per month (approx $15 per day). Is it not enough or too much?
Girls tend to buy more things than boys especially on their clothing and cosmetic/face washer.

my son is starting Pri 1 next year. We took a walk round the canteen during the Pri 1 registration to suss out how much pocket money to give him. Meals start at around $1.50 to $2??? for a pri sch?

his sch is a single session sch so may have to give him more if he needs to stay so we are estimating perhaps $3-$4 a day with some buffer??

Before we shifted to our new house in the West, my P6 son Primary school was within walking distance. Never took bus by himself before. We didn't change the school for him because it was his last yr in Pr school. We show him once how to take the bus home to our new house (no direct bus, need to change bus and still need to walk quite a distance on both sides), and the next day, he did it all by himself. So if you don't let them try, you will never know, sometimes they can be even better than us.

we don't have direct bus as well. instead of spending half an hour under the hot sun, i'd rather ask him to come home within 10 mins. Some of my friends all do like this, eventhough their kids in sec school, meaning aother side of singapore, they will take taxi home if no school bus. what to do, use money to buy time loh.

    Time is money.
If you have sufficient money, it is wiser to employ someone else to do the menial tasks and you make use of the time to earn more than what you pay them.
Downgrading of lifestyle is hard at first, but singapore transport system is efficient lah, take bus , mrt is not a problem lah.

I know of someone who give $1,000 to his sec school daughter for her allowance. Her mum kept part of her allowance as saving and left with a bit for her only.
