Some 16,000 non-medical public healthcare workers will be collecting a larger pay package at the end of September.

The increases, which range from four to 10 per cent, comes from their higher productivity levels.

One example, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, is the use of Calypso chairs by the Institute of Mental Health to get patients from the bed to the bathroom. Now, it needs just one, not two persons to get the job done.

Aside from saving five hours a day, which could be used to do other things, it has also resulted in 10 per cent fewer falls by patients, Mr Gan announced at the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH)

how come workers are not retrench due to higher productivity levels?
if workers not retrenched, then no point in higher productivity levels, the workers have more time to do other things, like surfing internet like FB.

pay raise for civil servants among the most frequent. Between one pay raise to another, not even enough time to assess performance sometimes

I remember you own an education center business.
Is your operating cost higher with the teachers given pay rise?

Your employees will also want higher pay isn't it? Any impact?

they give pay raise to civil servants like they are the only driving force in the economy I think when economy does well, they should distribute the bonus to every singaporean instead of within the civil service. even if the amount is very small to each individual, still better than just benefiting the civil service.

As mentioned before in the other thread, these teachers get paid by a standard market rate on a per hour basis. Thankfully the rate hasn't been adjusted upwards.

Since when have they consulted the people n take what we say seriously before they do something? They will always do first then give half baked reasoning, whether we accept it or not, they don't give a shit, that is the reality here

should be happy wat. GINI is reduced by bringing up the lower base.
also if lower ranks salary up, then ministers' salary also up, no need to cut ministers' salary already.

higher salary, more people can afford mortgage payment, or pay higher rent.
property up and up, until something happens.

What talking you? Ministers salaries up means everybody's salary up? ministers salaries up so civil servants salary up or vice versa more like it. Most people's salaries remain status quo

Actually when govt sets the benchmark, private companies and firms will be pressured to pay rise unless its very specialized... so this is good for most people in the long run lor... then again I must salute the healthcare sector... their work is worthy of such a pay rise! Just have to balance a bit in case even irresponsible people want to enter this sector just for the $$$ and then the standard of the sector might be compromised!

Then private sector low wage worker's pay stagnant then ministers pay should also be stagnant right? Private sector low wage workers form majority of the workforce in singapore n more representative of economy, not civil servants

the justification for payhike is increase in productivity.

usually "productivity" means same work can be done in a shorter time, that usually leaves more time for surfing the net on your iphone. so total work done in a day is the same.

next national park employees will get pay rise, since they can cover more ground on their brompton bikes.

Justification of the pay rise is increase of productivity ? Dun think so lah. Think gov just decided to make ppl happy. And yes you are right. By doing so gov "helps" to reduce th gini factor...

Were teachers and nurses under paid previously ? Nurses I know very very few Singaporeans want to do it. So paying them more may help to attract more ppl. Teachers I actually thought they are quite ok no ? 5k easily for junior ones.

I got nothing against civil service, just that many of them drag their heavy asses to work everyday and watching the clock the moment they step into office. Many just going through the motion coz they know they won't get sacked for fulfilling the barest minimum. In the private sector, the input by the employee is very often closely linked to the productivity n, profitability of company, very different from civil service, so employees in the private sector often have to up the ante and do above and beyond what is the basic to stay in their job. Civil servants can go through their work like a tired bag of shit n still get to enjoy bonuses and pay raises across the board coz govt will always be receiving taxes and all kinds of levies from ppl to feed their own kind. I am not saying all civil servants go through their job in an unmotivated manner, but majority of them are like that. I believe a lot of you deal with civil servants from LTA, CPF etc on a regular basis, what they are like you all should know very well.

wage inflation in civil service will pressurised private sector to increase wages.
tightening of import of low cost foreign labour, wages also up.
    coupled with strong S$.
what will happened to export sector?

where is stalingrad when you need him? dont tell me he is casualty, his reentry permit is not renewed.

    Negative impact for all sectors.
BUT MAS said we have "almost full employment". Assuming its data are correct, it's better to adjust pay now than later.
The agenda is to appease the public. Look every one loves a pay rise.
It is very clear, that gov is now determined to be more populist, and willing to sacrifice growth.
