    I always ask them where they get my number from. If they refuse to tell me I let them know I will not entertain them. Next is 5 seconds of silence. Then hang up on them.

    I don't have any reason to believe this act will protect anyone. Look at how many shop owners say they will ignore lemon law.

    put things in perspective, its just the govt GIVING US WHAT WE ASKED FOR.

    for consumer protection demands, its usually made by stupid (sorry for using this word but its true) consumers who are used to being spoonfed by the govt, who keeps kena cheated due to their own lack of due diligence or brain matter.

    there will always be one or two people who fall prey to Nigerian scams here.

    @EBD

    Wah, you still got time to ask so much question.

    Example,
    Agent: "can I speak to Mr Lim?"
    You: "Yes"
    Agent: "I am ..., you have property ..."
    You: "sorry, maybe you got the wrong Mr Lim, I have no property under my name..."
    Hang up phone.

    Just like those credit card or telco service provider on road show, just say you have it, full stop and walk away if you are busy.

    We Singaporean must learn to protect ourselves, why need others like our government to protect us? We are being look down by others as a nanny state where we depend too much on the now seems quite running out of idea government compare to the first generation.

    agree. I always say the same to those credit card pushers. I have already!!! bye!

    (sometimes add a chee in front of the bye if my mood is lousy)

    some even press on to ask, ours is a xxx card, you sure you have this?

    I just shoot them a very dirty look and continue walking past.
