Ride at your own risk !!!
The money received from the 1 million visitors can only pay partially for the maintenance and operation of the place. The two greenhouse is expensive to operate with air-conditioning system running 24/7. Our tax payers are funding it.Originally Posted by phantom_opera
Just have a cheap flight to Chiang Mai Doi Inthanon national park ... you will get the real waterfall (which is probably 5x bigger) and real tropical forest ... the Cloud Forest is really a jokeOriginally Posted by DC33_2008

Went there over weekend, it was a tremendous fun day for the family.. Kids love it esp the 2 greenhouse, cool temperate environment.
Extremely crowded like orchard road..
Will go back there again
Botanic garden is nice but hot.
GBTB?
Got Bull? Talk Bull.
Setting all that 'greenery' and eco friendliness in some obscure corner of the whole island isn't gonna do much for the eco-diversity nor health of the nation's people.
It is to draw tourist dollars.
Most of the plants there are still very small and young, not much shade and kena sunburn.
one side garden...other side casino
heaven and HELL
dont waste time and money there......
Botanic Gardens is a colonial-style garden as part of colonial tradition to create European style gardens in British colonies to exert their influence. Gardens by the Bay is more mediterranean. Both house alien species not indigeneous to Singapore our homeland. Both are artificial and fake. If you like nature, go to our rainforest and nature reserves. Since when is Botanical Gardens natural? It's a pruned garden full of alien species - only difference its these alien species don't need aircon. I don't know which is more fake.
where...garden or casino...Originally Posted by p3nboy

In fact, Singaporeans are considered lucky to be able to see and touch these plants without having to travel overseas. I am not too sure, but i guess there arent any other gardens in the world that could house so many types of plant species together under 'one roof' ??
Our trademark rojak culture has finally spread to the field of botany. well done.
Agree on this too...
It cannot and should not be compared to New York's Central Park or London's Hyde Park. But it is as good as it gets for a green space in the middle of the city. We are only a tiny island... I think it is great that the space is sacrificed for something other than more concrete and glass buildings which I am sure will make more money but make us into another Hong Kong..
Yes, it is a bit of a tourist trap... but hey, what's wrong with that?
