It was billed as a home with 'global living standards' and an experience 'thought to exist only outside of India', but some residents living in a Singapore-led condominium project are raising a stink over, well, a stinker.
A dispute has broken out between the residents of Elita Promenade, located in the middle-class residential area of Bangalore, and the project's developers - a joint venture between Singapore's Keppel Land and Bangalore developer Puravankara Projects - over sewage problems.
Launched in 2005, Elita is a 1,573-unit freehold property which was completed in February, though residents were able to move into finished homes from December 2009.
Two issues lie at the heart of this conflict. First, residents claim that the property's sewage treatment plant is malfunctioning and pumping untreated sewage into the next-door Sarakki Lake. They say the plant did not seem to be in operation when they visited it; water provided for flushing toilets was also yellow and smelly.
