SINGAPORE: The government paid a total of S$860,000 to human resource company Mercer (Singapore) Pte Ltd for its work with the Ministerial Salaries Review Committee.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean revealed this in a written answer to Parliament. This was in response to a question from Workers' Party MP Pritam Singh.

Mr Teo added that the chairman and members of the Ministerial Salaries Review Committee were all volunteers and they were not paid an honorarium or any other fees.

At the start of the review in 2011, the chairman of the committee, Mr Gerard Ee, had mentioned that the committee had a small secretariat of civil servants. They were resource persons and helped provide logistical and administrative support.

These civil servants supported the committee on a part-time basis and continued with their primary roles and duties.

The committee engaged Mercer to support the committee's work with their technical expertise on human resource and remuneration issues.

The committee had selected Mercer after assessing bid proposals submitted by three companies.

Mr Teo said no other additional cost was incurred by the government in relation to the appointment of the Ministerial Salaries Review Committee.

Better to out-source to independent 3rd party, else it can be quite dicey if the big boss presses the team (if internally done by HR department) that conducts the survey to reveal confidential info.

This Gahment is totally Hopeless .. pathetic and self-enriching only. Spent this kind of money to justify its own pay. Everything out of the tax coffers

Anything else for peasants , must Pay and Pay .Yeah GST to help the poor .. When ask to give additional $30 for assistance to the poor and needy .." You want 3 meal in a hawker centre ..food court or restaurants" ... Paying themselves $million every year, thinking they are they "besterest" kind in this world. Uniquely Singapore .. Totally immoral .. worst than North Korea ..

No wonder PRC scholar think we are no better than "dogs" b'cos we allow ourselve to be one.
