Singapore's population has reached 5.18 million, up 2.1 per cent from 5.08 million last year.
Singapore residents make up 3.79 million, according to the latest statistics from the Population Trends 2011 report.
Out of this number, 3.26 million are Singapore citizens and 530,000 are permanent residents.
There were 1.39 million non-resident foreigners as at end June, compared to 1.31 million in 2010.
The report said the increase was largely due to an increase in the number of citizens and non-residents. Meanwhile, the total population of Singapore citizens grew by 0.8 per cent, or 30,000, between 2010 and 2011.

The growth in the number of non-residents was 6.9 per cent in 2011, down from 15 per cent in 2007 and 19 per cent in 2008.
In contrast, the number of permanent residents also declined by 1.7 per cent to 532,000, after growing 1.5 per cent last year and at least 6 per cent each year between 2005 and 2009.
The median age of the resident population rose from 37.4 years in 2010 to 38 years in 2011. Meanwhile, the ratio of residents aged 15 - 64 years was 7.9 for each elderly resident aged 65 and over, a decline from 8.2 in 2010.

The growth in Singapore Citizens is accounted from the number of births vs the number of deaths in 2010. Therefore, strictly speaking, the rental demand should not be attributed from these newborns.

The rental demand should be from the increase of non-resident foreigners, accounting abt 80k (1.39mio-1.31mio). But not to forget that of these, many are construction workers, housekeepers, students etc. that do not need to rent a place by themselves. And that leaves us with maybe 20% of the 80k? which is.. 16k? alot?

There are more Indians in percenage terms in 2010 and 2011. Chinese has shrinked. Do you mean there are more Indian immigrants?

Suspected 2010-2011, Gahmen control due to election year, now onwards, if got chance they may open the tap abit more..., as well as to convert more PR to citizens...

Personally, 1 can only serve with pride if u have a stake in this country, something u feel worth defending..

All the National Day songs sound good and you are right, I do suspect the number of man that serve with pride has declined and will continue to decline with more 2nd Generation PR males serving NS. Chances of them serving with pride is much less than someone who has grandparents, parents, families who are citizens and much greater stake in this country and no 2nd home to parachute to ....

Defending our property? Hmm... Maybe that's why government allows PRs to buy HDBs and foreigners to buy pte properties easily, so that they have a stack in Singapore.

Nowadays, the war is more against terrorism rather than country against country. A major bomb at a critical location is enough to instill fear and severely damage the economy.

I would worry more about the rifle digging in my ribs if I rush too fast...so maybe that slowed down his momentum...

I'm more worried about myself or other people losing rifle parts during SOC. Can comb for hours in the entire area to look for that missing item. And it happened quite a few times

Pity the shorter ones whose helmet keeps hitting the wall as they try to go over the wall. Some even bang against the wall.
