WP has already taken 6 elected seats, so there are three NCMP positions left. One seat will be offered to Lina Chiam (SPP Potong Pasir), one seat to Yee Jenn Jong (WP Joo Chiat) and one seat to WP East Coast GRC.
Here is how Chiam See Tong can get back into parliament and continue to contribute his experience to provide check and balance.
1. Lina Chiam rejects the NCMP position.
2. WP already has six elected voices in parliament, so the 2 extra NCMP seats are really meaningless to them because NCMP carries no voting rights. Hence, WP should also reject the NCMP seats. This include East Coast GRC's WP candidates who lost at 45.17%.
Base on the above scenario, the 3 NCMP seats will then go to the NSP Marine Parade team (lost with 43.35%), that can nominate a maximum of two persons under the constitution. This leaves the remaining NCMP seat to SPP Bishan Toa Payoh - and Mr Chiam (lost with 43.06%) can return to Parliament!
This arrangement is win-win because NSP gets a chance to be in parliament to prepare them for the next election (it has been proven that Sylvia Lim had benefited from her experience as NCMP). So, key members from the NSP Marine Parade team could benefit from this. Even Nicole Seah could get a chance to get in and represent the voice of the young …. AND there will be three opposition parties to represent the interests of Singaporeans in Parliament!
