Default MBT 2009:We were caught off guard but government can stop prices from growing

Fears of a property bubble forming saw the government introducing measures such as removing easy financing schemes to cool the private homes sector.

Although housing prices are set to rise next year, Mr Mah said the government is closely monitoring the situation and will take action, if necessary. For example, Mr Mah said more land will be released to developers if needed.

"In other words, I sell you a flat at fixed price, when you sell the flat, you have to sell it back to me also at a fixed price. In other words, you are not allowed to profit from the flat. There you can keep flat prices fixed."

He ignored property bubble warnings as early as 2009 before implementing 4 cooling measures just before elections.

He has the power to influence prices but did not.

    Only elections forced his hand.

How many properties is he holding I wonder.

I think it can be use as excuse but very weak.

We citizens voted and empowered them with almost absolute power.

If the government ministers during cabinet meeting never talk to each other and coordinate and plan, whose fault it is suppose to be ? PMO's fault ??

The agencies never talk and walk as silos, which MNCs in the world allow such working pattern and business process ??

Remember, our leaders are highest paid in the world, we deserve some premium results and not just use mistakes associated with common people as excuses.

Then there is something wrong with their working style, if they cannot work with each other as government, then citizens should know.

Then we can vote in somebody who can plan and coordinate.

The above action is call "Hedging" it will encourage speculator to secure at fixed rate and later sell it to public at premium in a rising market condition. I like that idea of hedging, Can speculate and earn More. But if market downturn probably is better to defalut then to take the bullet....Great news..

How likely is the govt going to implement this? If so, nobody can make money from technically "buying lease" from HDB anymore.
