Fire at private condo forces residents to evacuate

A FIRE broke out in a sixth-storey Hillview Avenue apartment just after midnight on Thursday, forcing around 50 residents of the condominium block to be evacuated.
The fire also affected nearby apartments in Hillview Park's block 19A before being put by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers by 12.40am yesterday.

A female occupant of the sixth-storey unit was admitted to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation, the SCDF said.

Mr Vincent Lim, who lives on the eighth floor of Block 19A said he was just about to turn in for the night when he heard people shouting.

'The fire started small but kept getting bigger,' he said. 'I could feel the heat even when I rushed down to the ground floor.'
