Developers including tile skirting

Hi, I'm wondering whether it's common for developers of new properties not to include tile skirting for the living room and only for the bedroom? Thought it's rather odd since it looks half done unless I'm not aware of something... Can anyone enlighten? Thanks!

It sounds weird enough already, no need pictures. Just fill in defects form and let the developer know.

Let them know this is TNP-worthy material.

Yep maisonjai, that's right... The living area doesn't have any skirting but the rooms have. Is this a new trend or is there something I'm missing out?

All my properties have wood skirting in living, dinning, and bed rooms.

Look good to me. You should expect a lot of painting after a few month then finally install the tile skirting yourself. Or a better way don't mop and vacuum the floor.

If cement screeding I think no skirting as well? But that looks kinda old school to me. Not very practical for conventional mops, but those flat mops that use little water or machine mopping still fine.

Hi paradoxtan, although u can say there are cost savings for developers, some ID are also doing away with it for "modern look". Pics attached for some imagination. :chuncky: It's pretty common in TW.

Pros
Furniture can sit direct against the wall without the shadow gap.

Cons
Extra effort needed during vacuuming cos there's a small recess about 5mm in the case of Sennett Res, a vacuum nozzle should be able to take care of it.

U can ask ur ID to fill up the gap with plaster to flush it if u can get over the skirting.

when i built my house in 2007, my architect designed all walls, both top and bottom, with a C channel inserted, to create a Floating effect.

When i renovate my condo recently, i wanted to do away with the skirting and do C channel. I was told by the contractor that it will cost alot. It requires alot of labor to 'chip' away the bottom part of the concrete walls, level it, then insert the C channel...

so perhaps yours is deliberately done so.

It looks nice really .... Skirting is quite passe ... considering i ditched it since 2007...

Actually some have wooden skirting if you view carefully.

Rock / Stone wall don't need skirting. Painted wall skirting is for practical purposes.

C channel is different lah, it again serves practical purposes.

Don't believe me just live in it for a couple of years or rent out for a couple of years then revisit loh...

*Disclaimer: if you invest in technology for robots to mop your house, it will help a bit. But will still have toe prints.

thats an example

at the bottom of your concrete wall... chip off the base and push the C channel into it ...

when view at a distance .. the wall appears 'NOT TOUCHING THE FLOOR'

so imagine your entire wall ...in place of skirting ... has a c channel inserted ... the whole wall appears to be floating ...off the floor ..

and if you do the same for all 4 edges ...the wall appears to POP out ...

That's really cool. So only question is - do the developers insert the c channel in the recess or they just chip off the base and leave it as is?
