THE estate of a renowned eye surgeon, the late Professor Arthur Lim, has put a Chancery Hill Road property up for sale at an indicative price of $19 million.

The property is on a 12,772 sq ft site and is zoned residential, for two-storey mixed landed use.

It had been owned by Prof Lim, the founding medical director at the Singapore National Eye Centre, before he died in August last year.

A two-storey detached house sits on the site.

The property is suitable for addition or alteration works or redevelopment.

The authorities have also approved a subdivision of the property into two bungalows, said Knight Frank, which is marketing the property.

Ms Mary Sai, executive director at Knight Frank, noted its location within the "prime Chancery area".

The property is near Novena and the upcoming Mount Pleasant MRT stations, as well as established schools including Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), Catholic Junior College and Singapore Chinese Girls' Primary School.

"The prospective buyer can either redevelop it into a luxurious new bungalow, two bungalows for multi-tier families or strata landed housing," said Ms Sai.

"Given its redevelopment potential, we would expect strong interest for this property."

The indicative price of the property is $19 million, or about $1,488 per sq ft (psf).

A nearby Dyson Road bungalow sold for $20 million or $1,493 psf in April last year, while another bungalow in Gentle Road sold for $13.1 million or $1,493 psf in March last year.

The sale is by expression of interest and closes on April 21 at 3pm.

THE former home of the late eye surgeon and philanthropist Arthur Lim has been put up for sale by expression of interest.

With a land area of approximately 12,772 sq ft, the Chancery Hill Road property is selling for an indicative price of S$19 million, or about S$1,488 per sq ft.

The two-storey detached house is suitable for addition and alteration works, or redevelopment. The authorities have also given the green light for it to be subdivided into two bungalows.

Mari Sai, executive director of investment and capital markets at Knight Frank, which is marketing the property, said: "The prospective buyer can either redevelop it into a luxurious new bungalow, two bungalows for multi-tier families or strata landed housing."

Zoned "Residential - 2-storey mixed landed" under the Urban Redevelopment Authority's 2014 Master Plan, the property sits in a prime landed residential area, near the Novena and upcoming Mt Pleasant MRT stations; it is served by the Pan Island Expressway and Central Expressway. Nearby retail and dining options are at Velocity @ Novena Square, Square 2 and United Square Shopping Centre.

Prof Lim, who died last August at age 80, was the founding medical director of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC); he also helped set up the Singapore Eye Research Institute and the Department of Ophthalmology at the National University Hospital.

His philanthropic work included the setting up of training centres in China to train surgeons in the treatment of cataracts.

In January 2014, the Arthur Lim Professorship in Opthalmology was established by SNEC and the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore in his honour.

The expression of interest for his former home closes at 3pm on April 21.
