The article did not take into account a few things.

1. HDB Concessionary rates are 2.6% but if taken with private banks its sibor+x rates floating capped at 2.5%
2. HDB is also a asset that is inflationary . i.e. the owner can choose to monotize by down grading.
3. Rental dont have to be whole unit for people with only 1 unit. they can still rent out 1 room or 2.

these are some of the things the article do not consider. Also Rich will always have more options. It happen everywhere in the world. The only question is can having a home as a asset help lift the lower ranks of the population. verses like the US where 40% of the population are permanent renters.
