LAKE Life, an upcoming "smart" executive condominium (EC) in the Jurong Lake District, will be Singapore's first condo to run a driverless electric shuttle vehicle between the development and the nearby Lakeside MRT station.

The shuttle service remains subject to approval by the Land Transport Authority, but the developer of the condo, a consortium led by Evia Real Estate, is already working on it with Shado, a young Singapore-based car design firm and the National University of Singapore.

Designed by British car designer Steve Harper, the prototype is now being built in the UK and will likely be ready by the fourth quarter of this year.

Anticipating a future where electric cars will be the norm, the developer is providing a charging bay in the residents' carpark.

The smart homes in Lake Life will be kitted out with an Intelligent House Control System, which will enable families to visually monitor their homes or control its appliances through the Internet while they are out. For this feature, the developer is working with a company called Anjels.

All common areas in the development will have free WiFi access, and the booking of the shared facilities will be done online and through a mobile application.

Vincent Ong, the co-managing director of Evia Real Estate, said he is not interested in minting "cookie-cutter" condos, which is why the consortium has assembled innovators and creative talents to design a "one-of-a-kind residence".

The Jurong Lake District is set to become the most futuristic part of Singapore, and function as a test bed for new technologies in Singapore's drive to become the world's first smart nation.

Lake Life will be open for e-applications on Oct 4. It is expected to complete and obtain its temporary occupation permit (TOP) in 2018.

If the driver-less shuttle bus met an accident or knock down a person, who is going to be responsible? :sorrow:
Will insurance pay?

My understanding is that even Google is not ready to deploy driver-less vehicle after spending $ BILLIONS over past >10 years, the vehicle depending on Singapore technology without much money spent on research and development is read for deployment? I DOUBT SO!!! :crushed:
