SINGAPORE: The Costa Sands Resort in Pasir Ris will close on 20 July, says its operator NTUC Club.
The land lease for the 163-room resort expires in August 2014.
NTUC Club says it will not be renewing the lease as it will focus its resources on its plans to redevelop Downtown East.
As part of the Refreshing Downtown East project, a new resort is slated to open by the second quarter of next year.
The resort, which will be bigger in size than Costa Sands Resort in Downtown East, will comprise 387 rooms, says NTUC Club.
It adds that the resort's opening will give the public a first taste of the refreshed Downtown East.
The redevelopment project, undertaken in phases and targeted for completion in late 2017, "aims to offer guests at Downtown East an integrated leisure experience. Along with the new resort, guests will enjoy an expanded Wild Wild Wet water park and more retail, dining and entertainment options", says NTUC Club.
NTUC Club says the two other Costa Sands Resort properties at Downtown East and Sentosa will remain open.
