He allegedly murdered his girlfriend, stabbing her multiple times in the chest before withdrawing $14,500 from her bank accounts.
At the start of Lim Wee Thong's murder trial yesterday, the prosecution said the former prison officer had killed Ms Loh Nyuk Moi (above) in her Jurong flat at Yung Ping Road in February 2011.
The flat was slated for en bloc redevelopment and Ms Loh had received $123,600 as compensation after returning it to HDB.
The prosecution said Lim was saddled with credit card debt and had borrowed from unlicensed moneylenders, friends and other girlfriends.
If found guilty of murder, he faces the death penalty or life imprisonment.
