Quite likely to be the case, status quo for now.

But wont huat for long bcos dont forget once these existing 'status quo' flats get returned back to HDB via SERS etc the new replacement flats will have the same new restrictions. In fact i see 'status quo' flats hard to appreciate anymore as HDB will have every incentive to SERS these flats the sooner the better. hehehe

If HDB is really SERS-ing flats, those pay high price (especially sea view apt in marine parade) will be badly hit with their compensation.
Since govt did taken into consideration that might want to continue with whole flat rent out for existing owners so that this group can maintain or upgrade to condo lifestyle, shouldn't this other group of buyers be taken care of too as they had paid tons of thousand dollars to buy their dream view or location? Just a thought and resign to the world is unfair. :spliff:

Majority wants it to be less of an asset and more of a home but majority wants to sublet. If you sublet, it automatically becomes an asset leh. The respondents a bit confused liao.

Should have a question:"do u want to buy cheap cheap from Hdb then can rent out whole unit or sell high high later?", confirm 100% agree :D

It depends what are the restrictions the so-called new cheaper incoming BTO flats will have. There is nothing unfair, just whether one stand to gain more or gain less.

only time when you sublet and is not an asset is when the rental is probably only enough to cover the interest. but based on today's rental rate vs instalment amount, it's hard to refute that HDB has become a very valuable asset.

Most of the Singaporeans who gathered to debate the future of the Housing Board (HDB) on Thursday night wanted the rules tightened to make flats "more home, less asset".They felt that the priority should be to meet the housing needs of Singaporeans as opposed to seeing flats as appreciating assets. At the Our Singapore Conversation (OSC) dialogue on housing, which focused on home ownership, some participants also argued that flats should not be sub-let liberally. They should not be owned either by those who can afford private properties.Several participants at the dialogue, held at the National Library building, added that permanent residents and new citizens should be subject to different rules than born-and-bred citizens, like a longer minimum occupation period in their flats.
