HK does not have a defence force. Already save lots! Our defence budget is S$12b. Imagine our surplus otherwise! Let's call this paying for insurance perhaps.

just met a friend from HK, some shocking facts:

1) the visa to HK is indeed issued by mainland china. HK Immigration cannot control it. HK people can only make noise and ask mainland china to issue less number of visas. So really HK is NOT a country;

2) the top primary school in HK requires parent to buy HK$5M debenture in order to get an interview opportunity (and there is still a long queue)

3) in some shopping centers, 90% of the shoppers are mainland chinese.

You are right, it is just secured an interview.
You should see the pre-school, it is even worst.

Children at least need to master two musical instruments, piano and violin is not enough.

Once again, Singaporeans complain about the educational system here. They don't know how lucky they are compared to most other countries.

i don't agree. using engineering degree course contents as a yardstick, please do the comparisons between aussie/european unis vs NUS and you can see how big a gulf there is - in terms of the spirit of learning and methods of instruction. to put it simply, NUS is archaic, packs in a lot of extra content at the expense of creativity.
