Would the unthinkable happen i.e. US politicians fail to solve fiscal cliff?? It could mean recession.

Perhaps that's what the MIW have already anticipated. US citizens don't need to pay ABSD. Also there has been provision for additional international schools too. MIW are one step ahead. SG is likely to welcome them (quietly).

flash crash again ... computer automated trading ...

The most spectacular action has been in S&P 500 futures. The electronically traded E-mini contract fell precipitously after 0100 GMT, losing 50 points, or 3.5 per cent, in just 15 minutes after Republican speaker John Boehner announced he had cancelled a vote on his “plan B” budget proposal.

There is no break out. The only game in town now is gov stimulus. All the companies will keep their result down or lower their target to keep the stimulus flowing. The CEO is not going to waste their energy or money for innovation anymore, instead they are hoarding cash. Next year will be M&A time. New IPO will not going to be well received, so less chance of a break out.

With cheap money around, the name of the game is Merger and Acquisition. Just like HP and Autonomy. An acquisition with a scent of curruption. Some of us still can remember how great japan was. That was before waves of stimulus. Now the big japan electronics losing more money than they ever made in their lifetime. Only muppet still playing in shares now.

Bro, humans are habitual creatures... US was down since 2007/8 and they turn to austerity drive... Their nature is SPENDING... Economy shows slight improvement, jobs now becoming more stable. What happens???? Spend lah.. Give yourself a treat. Once done, what happen??? Feel shiok... Then it starts creeping in slowly but surely(spending that is)... And the cycle repeats again.

I find lack of bearish sentiment deeply disturbing, you find bulls in every single asset except cash ... be it corp bond, stock, property

Not even 4y SSD, ABSD, reduction of loan tenure has any perceived dampening effect judging from response to Echelon

EC @ 770psf is considered affordable, 1.5m-2m ECs are considered good deals, many family members share to buy properties

Many assume just rent out they are set for retirement

The more restrictions gov put on property, the more people believe its safety. I think the properties that are still servicing high high percentage loan is small in comparison to properties that are fully paid or already crossing 70% payment mark. It can be said that sg property has execellent holding power ability. After the last lehman crisis, those who are unable to hold on are already out from the market.
