other than the need to wake up early, those drivers interviewed seem to be able to have fun / family life in between

of course ... no Christmas bonus:

Spanish police protest loss of Christmas bonus

MADRID - About 3,000 off-duty police officers are demonstrating in Madrid to protest the government's austerity measures, including the cancellation of their Christmas bonuses.

From the way he described his "shifts" :

1) 5:30am - 9:30am then
2) 2:00pm - 6:00pm and
3) After dinner, if happy then work till 10:00pm.

Still have to deduct rent and fuel, Possible $7k ? Not every month , right ? :beats-me-man:

The secret according to them is Friday / Sat evening s... midnight pickups from bars and night spots

It allows them to stay close to family ... have lunch, send kids to schools etc.

Have to salute him then ... I guess this is some kind of work life balance as compared to his previous job as a security manager. Family always comes first. My respect for that .... :cool-punk-headbange

My cousin was retrenched a few years back and has been driving taxi since then. He is the sole-breadwinner with 2 kids and a stay-at-home wife and they live comfortably in a 5 rm hdb. Monthly income is $4.5k to $5k. Of course, no cpf and bonuses.

If all goes well for my investments, I plan to retire in a few years and join the taxi trade too.

I feel it is not an easy job.
Driving is rather stressful and trapped in a car....

....actually if include cpf, and bonuses, 7K without any leave and benefits is less than his previous 5K per month salary....income also dependent on fuel cost job hazard of getting summons for traffic offenses being on the road during the whole working day.....
