There are quite a good collection of good houses around in the East
Two at the junction of Marine Parade Rd and Still Road
Two at Grand Duchess@St Patrick
One at The Seaview
One next to the Chinese Swimming Club
Take a slow walk at Joo Chiat Road and East Coast...lots of beautiful houses there, a very rich collection and a number of interesting shops there like the one making the popiah skin
There is one house, that look machiam like marbled walls, golden gate etc in I think Mountbatten area...
And then one interesting one at the junction of East Coast Rd and Frankel i think.
Sin Hoe Hotel - for the unique architecture

Hi carbuncle, is Sin Hoe Hotel still functional?
I remember it in the past. But now, don't notice it.
Could it be because the trees are covering it?

Yes its still in operation. I remember many yrs ago when i was in sec sch, the house was brightly painted and colourful, but now they have toned down back to dual colour tones. In fact, there are several huge mansions along mountbatten road, quite a number were abandoned ones.
Sharing an interesting blog on all the old mansions of the past in sg:

Laguna, you are most welcomed, i love this blog article a lot too as it provides much valuable info of the past for the younger generation in sg. There are still quite a number of gems along marine parade road, like some of the old sea walls of east coast which are still existing today.
Some beautiful seafront villas of D15, then and now:
1) Villas at St Patricks Rd (formerly owned by descedants of Tan Kim Seng but now are the clubhouses of Grand Duchess)

http://www.ura.gov.sg/conservation/images/grandduchess.jpg
2) Butterfly House - same architect who designed Raffles Hotel & Goodwood Park Hotel. Now the butterfly has its wing clipped, with only a tiny front facade of the house retained as the main entrance of Aristo

Sharing some more D15 sea front mansions which are still left untouched for now (info abstracted from various websites):
1) Karikal Mahal- the largest seafront mansion of east coast, used to be owned by a rich indian cattle merchant in the 1920s. The compound was cut into half to make way for the construction of Still Rd (junction at Marine Parade Rd). Was subsequently operated as Grand Hotel and now becomes a furniture warehouse.
http://remembersingapore.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/karikal-mahal2.jpg
2) Sea Breeze Lodge - Opposite Parkway Parade, owned by Choa Kim Keat. Was occupied by his descendant Eric Choa until he passed away a few yrs ago. Now sold to FEO ........

I think they had missed out properties like the one at Draycott...cannot recall the name 18 or 118 with a very beautiful clubhouse, the most beautiful one I have ever seen.
I felt very sad on the butterfly house, I failed to understand why URA did not list it as conservation in the first instance

Yes indeed, it was a shame that the butterfly house has to go. I am fortunate enough to visit the house before the construction of Aristo.

Hi bro, u from Bedok Boys?

Another rare gem left in Upp East Coast:
Hua Yu Wee Seafood
462 Upper East Coast Road, Singapore 466508
6442 9313
Read review here (http://www.google.com.sg/imgres?imgurl=http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/isougly/Hua%2520Yu%2520Wee/DSC05587.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.timelessfacade.com/2008/10/hua-yu-wee.html&usg=__Jh-cFF1PDAvgo4lNQEvlNgx6WiA=&h=400&w=600&sz=43&hl=en&start=4&zoom=1&tbnid=LEL962XID7u62M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=135&ei=lUSGULXIL4zMrQej-YHoAw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhua%2Byu%2Bwee%2Beast%2Bcoast%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1)
Probably the last one left standing along Upp East Coast Road. All the other seafood restaurants like Little Red House, Long Beach and Spring Court which used to line along the east coast, have since made way for private apartments.
Hua Yu Wee is relatively lower priced compared with most other seafood restaurants at East Coast Park.
Me not that OLD la sis!!!!!

Another delicious but humble looking eatery is Cafe D'Manila at Katong Village.
The place is small, so mostly takeaways.

Dear brothers and sisters, I see that this thread has gone quiet.
There is this Hawaiian Restaurant back in the 70's just off the East Coast.
It was located on a cliff near Changi.
The waitresses dressed like Hawaiians' and the music was Hawaiian too.
I do not remember whether there were Hawaiian dances too as I went there only once.
Those attractive girls must be grandmothers now.
It is a very nice place, cool windy nights and you can hear the waves crashing below.
Unfortunately, I do not have photos but found the restaurant on the web.
The location is now part of the airport.

Any photos available for sharing is much appreciated to bring back these good memories.
Thank you.
