If you have been following the news, teachers are given 8% increment wef Aug. Perhaps the tertiary (ite, poly, uni) may follow suit in the coming month. Any thoughts on the implication on the sg property scene given those are a huge pool (between 40000-50000 people)?

I know one primary school teacher so relaxed, everyday just teaching a small handful of lower primary kids for learning support programme until her level of competency never go past primary three n she never bother to keep in pace with other levels, some p6 kids I know are more well versed in the syllabus than her. Her drawn salary $5k plus a month really wasting taxpayers money.

The govt over rewarding civil servants, giving pay raise like nobody's business. Many workers in the private sector have to prove their performance before getting a raise. In singapore thousands of incompetent civil servants just get dragged along to enjoy the benefits, very much like how tintin got into parliament. The more you assess the teachers based on students' academic performance, the capable ones might as well set up their own tuition center and charge higher fees for their coaching skills (smaller group size ... higher profit etc)

Tuition centres have to constantly be ahead and do a gd job to survive, teachers don't have to, they get paid no matter how crappy their students perform. How do you know I don't pay them well? I pay them teacher's rate, the industry follows a standard so they know what they should get paid, I don't need to tell them. HODs, level n subject heads can command a premium and it is usually the teachers who quote their own rates. many are willing parties to the tuition business and nobody force them. some are paid well in school but still give tuition to earn spare cash for holidays, car etc. if they are unprofessional and choose to moonlight, it is their decision but as a taxpayer who contribute their salary in school n also pay them outside school, I do not think they deserve the 8% increment coz many (i didn't say all) do not devote extra time to their students in school but choose to pry their trade outside in secret for personal gain. I am speaking from my ten over years of experience in this industry so don't flame me.
