Taxis will be taken out of COE bidding process from Aug: LTA

What do u think ? COE will drop at least 10k ?

Obviously MAS cannot lose face of targeting 4 to 4.5% inflation rate

Wah lau. Taxis take out from Cat A and Cat A quota remain the same? This effectively means more cars on the road liao lor. More jam. Taxis cause more jam than private cars since they ply the road almost 24 hours. Those who paid high COE for their Cat A cars must be fuming mad. Haha. If want to take taxis out from Cat A, then Cat A quota has to come down and allocate some to Cat E. i hope out govt know how to make the necessary adjustments, .ie. deregistration for taxis should now be moved to Cat E and therefore the Cat A quota should be reduced (shifted to Cat E) as well. Or else vehicle growth rate go up again.

You are sharp. In fact, taxi companies need to ramp up their fleet size as required by LTA. The old taxis that need to be replaced when it reached EOL will just pay prevailing CAT A COE while new fleet will get their Coe from CAT E.

Whether CAT will drop or not? Anybody guess. Lots of Euro cars with 1.6L turbo going be launched in next few months.....starting this weekend from Merc with the B200.

no cat b buyer will buy an underpowered conti so such borderline cases are rare. if you are buying a massa or mac or porky, who cares if its cat a or b as long as its performs well. this will b very good news for TDI makers, bad news for inbetweeners like 1, 3, A, B, C

Cat A is for the masses.
It is like HDB n should be made affordable.

COE should be awarded to those who need cars and not those who can afford cars.... those who can afford cars and going for their 2nd or 3rd car should bid under a different category of COE for the super rich. The regular COE should be based on measurable indicators such as the number of family members or number of children under 16 years old or something like that... I know of a family with 4 kids but can't afford cars so used motorcycle to drive children around... then I also know of those who just drive around for fun... Hmmm...

A major change involving taxis and the COE system could have far-reaching effects for car buyers. In a nutshell, it may take some heat off those in the market for small cars but spell bad news for those seeking bigger cars.
As taxis are removed from the small car quota, it will only shift the price pressure to the big-car segment, say some motor distributors.
From next month, taxi operators who want to expand their fleets no longer have to bid for a certificate of entitlement (COE) and need only pay the prevailing quota premium (PQP).
But this will not mean more COEs for new car buyers because each new additional cab will result in one fewer Open Category COE available in the subsequent six-monthly COE quota.

=> if you take inflation into consideration, 100k today more like 40k in early 1990's

The review of the current 1.5 version sylphy is under powered, whereas the Latio is very fuel economical .. Both the same type of engine .

Is the power to weight ratio, a 1.5 engine running a 2 litre body may be under power ...
