Redas seminar on impact of euro woes

WITH trouble in the eurozone and a worse than anticipated slowdown in China hitting world economies, the Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (Redas) is holding a seminar that will look into the impact of these developments on Singapore's real estate sector.

In particular, the Redas Property Prospects Seminar will examine how these developments may chart the dynamics, sentiment and performance of the Singapore property industry, and the sort of opportunities and challenges that might be present across the different real-estate sectors.

To be held on July 12 at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore, the full-day event will feature prominent Bank of America Merrill Lynch economist Chua Hak Bin. Mr Chua will give an overview on what he expects for Singapore's economy, going forward.

Savills Singapore's senior director for regional capital markets, Craig Ward, will look into Singapore's commercial property sector. In particular, he will talk about the unique position Singapore's central business district is in - with commercial office rents declining even as capital values continue to hold steady, and entry yields trend downwards.

Dennis Yeo, managing director of Colliers International, will provide insight into the current hot property of the real-estate sector - industrial space. With the spotlight turned on the legitimacy of housing non-industrial firms in space meant for industrial users, questions are being raised on what is allowed in industrial buildings, and what is not. Mr Yeo will look into whether the definition of what constitutes industrial use requires fine-tuning.

Other notable speakers include Chua Yang Liang, national director, head of research & consultancy (South East Asia), Jones Lang LaSalle; Ong Teck Hui, executive director of research & consultancy at Credo Real Estate (Singapore); Robert McIntosh, executive director, CBRE Hotels Asia Pacific; Peter See-Toh, managing director of retail at Knight Frank; and John Stinson, managing director of capital markets group at Cushman & Wakefield Asia Pacific.

Registration for the event is now open. Interested parties can e-mail Jessica Chen from Redas at [email protected].
