View Full Version : should we be concern about population growth?
I think I found the answer

Doubling time is exponential in nature... hmmm... Singapore's population in the 80s was about 2.5 mil. 20 years later, its about 5 mil. Doubled in 20 years, meaning the growth rate is average of about 3.5% per year. Hmmm... is this high? I think so!
the damn island will sink soon with the continuous growth in population.
It simply means more housing will be needed to accomodate the population growth. Must chiong now!
i guess it is one way up... maybe until we hit 8million pple...

Read part 3 ... only the last minute you realize you are out of space (i.e. no more resources to support the growth)
Whenever MRT breaks down ... I feel it too :scared-3:
If the floodgate of 30k per year new SPRs/SCs policy being implemented, you probably won't realize you are short of housing until it is too late

I did read article written by dunno which economist,
In order to self sustain a country/city needs at least 6-8million.
That's one of the issue ...our gahmen read too much into these 'studies'.
Once they buy in, they want to make it happen artificially and ASAP.
The "Stop At Two" in the 1970's was in response to a study that we wld be over-populated. Now, 2010's where are we?
For every 'study/report' that says take a 'right turn', you can find another to say take a 'left'. And they're all experts! That is why its called a social science and not an exact science...

The stop at 2 is the oldman's opinion turned law. Great foresight!
At that time, Opinion was the Law. But he had 'studies' done - to support his Opinion-turned-Law. Either way, it was Social Experiment that has come back to bite his Son. But really, the joke is on us - the citizenry.
Fortunately, the off-shoot Graduate Mother scheme fell by the Social Engineering way-side.
"Stop Procreating", then now its "Don't Stop Procreating"...but in the meantime, I'll Import some Ready-Made. Don't worry - It's All Good!!
Till 2040's...

Bring in lower wages foreigners never mind since the highly educated Sporeans dun wan to do those jobs. But the floodgate includes the foreign talents! These are the ones snatching our rice bowls. So in return, Sporeans buy condos and become landlords to claim back the rice lost.
Those who sit back and do nothing are the ones who will lose big time both ways.
