beside cost, is there any reason why HDB doesnt build basement carpark?

next time mrt lines need to run underneath it. :D
then they need to keep the lights on 24/7 for the officers to check season parking :beats-me-man:

underground c/park prone to theft from vehicles due to lack of visibility... hdb will not spend more money just to install cctv...

*cost* itself (build and maintain) is enough.
Yeah agree, it's all about cost.

Isn't this is like asking why HDB flats sound-proofing so poor, any reason other than costs?

All the HDB apartments at Buangkok MRT area have underground condo style parking. Park near the lift and go up straight to your unit
Though there are no basement carpark yet but there are multi-storey carparks. Some of them can drive up to the same floor level as your house and is only a few steps away, it is like your private carpark.:D
public housing already "subsidised", still want to build underground car parks?
as it is car park spaces r getting smaller (or is it cars getting bigger?), maybe next time wont even build hdb car parks at all haha. :p

HDB will be building mechanised carparks in future.
Rochor Centre (shops cum HDB) has basement carpark.
The New BTO flats in Punggol, Waterway Brooks and Waterway Woodcress come with underground carparks below the landscaped courtyards.
So, there might be more of such underground covered carparks for new BTOs in the future.

Building and maintaining it is expensive. Don't think they will do it

No choice. Vehicle population is still increasing. HDB can only buy time and look for cost reduction with the feasibility study. Probably we will see a mix of mechanised parking (for non-resident drivers) and normal parking for HDBs near city center.
