By having breached 11,613 at the closing bell, the DJI has broken strong resistance and likely to have created a mid-term bottom. Next week, there should be concrete action plans unveiled at the EU Summit. This should be catalyst required for the next leg up. The market movers have set this up very well - making the technical and fundamental aspects converge going into the coming week.

Stimulus measures which member nations of the EU will undertake individually shall result in more money being printed. Roubini is calling for an EU TARP to be formed. This is necessary to restore confidence, trigger the "greed" and "fear of missing the boat" in private investors to get the huge amount of money flowing out of the sidelines and into the system.

Germany's stance over the last few months has softened and become more accommodating as the Germans realise the huge impact of the turmoil in the Eurozone on their own economy. Their support is essential to the measures (great for the numbers but morally toxic) which will be implemented over the next one year.

Thanks. Mon will move up looking at what happen to DJ and Euros last night. Will off load some and wait for dip to buy back. China growth will still have impact on Singapore. Singapore just miss the technical recession. May go up and down just like the stock market.

hold, don't sell, momentum will bring Dow back to 12k by end of the month, dip will not come so soon, will add position if China-A goes beyond 2.5k next week

Those who read candlestick should immediately know the underlying buying momentum, Dow has overcome both 50dMA and 11,550 with good volume

Quote from Paul Krugman:

What caused the financial industry to grow much faster than the rest of the economy starting around 1980 was a series of deliberate policy choices, in particular a process of deregulation that continued right up to the eve of the 2008 crisis.

=> it took 28y (1980-2008) for this to play out, our very asset enhancement policy started in 1992 too

2 possibilities for Dow:

1. Retest 50dMA and rebound off 50dMA and cheong
2. Retest 10,500 to form a double bottom
3. Crash below 10,500

IMO, (1) is more likely, this time around Wall Street will still win, but next time I am not sure :p

Take a look 5y dow gold ratio with 200dMA, how can it be lower than 2009 bottom where Citi was $1? So Dow must at least go up to 12k or gold must go down from this level but the former is much more likely. That's why I am positive as long as 11,300 holds.

Article on MF Gobal (Nothing is safe these days):

The Straits Times reported that about 30 investors clamoured to withdraw funds and close accounts at the brokerage's office on the 17th story at One George Street yesterday, as they feared for the safety of their money.
According to the report, a female employee asked investors to queue up and fill out withdrawal request forms shortly after 9.15am.

At around 10am, investors were no longer allowed to enter the office. They were met in the lobby instead where a male Caucasian employee, who declined to identify himself, told investors: "There is no trading taking place on any product. All trading platforms are inoperable at the moment. All incoming and outgoing funds are suspended.
"Your funds are segregated under MAS regulations and SGX regulations in Singapore. They are not the property of MF Global, they are your funds, they are held in Singapore."
One of the investors, Madam Kelly Tan, 48, told The Straits Times: "I couldn't sleep the whole night, can't eat the whole day. I called them but nobody picked up the phone. It was very scary for me.
"Now my worry is not just that I can't take back my money - I've also incurred debt."

Despite the fact that MF Global's trading platform has been down since Monday afternoon, her account has not been suspended. She said that yesterday alone, she had already incurred up to $40,000 debt from her open positions. She had invested more than $100,000 of her life savings in contracts for difference (CFDs) with MF Global.

Dow back above 12k, would it have enough momentum to overcome the 200dMA ... high chance ;)

Lots of shorts getting squeezed left, right and center is helping this wave draw the sideline folks in to test the next supra-resistance level. Eurozone troubles are almost boiling over and ironically Dow is inching towards its 52-week high.

Market movers seem to be seriously intent about keeping the uptrend intact.

Ya, but surprised after all this roller coaster, Dow is above 12k and positive for the year, expect more twist and turn till end of the year. Suspect there's much liquidity out there ...

so much has been talked about euro's woes and the bank stocks have been hammered, but yet, dow is above 12k and s&p is above 1250.

how much more dirt can you throw at this market before it can drop 20-30%?

bingo

and being #1 military in the world, #1 consumers in the world, reserve currency in the world, it debts are denominated in USD ... US's QE1/QE2 effectively drag the whole world into inflation ... how can you resist imported inflation when US is #1 export destination? The big joke is everybody is involved in competitive devaluation after QE1/QE2 except may be Japan.

Resistance is futile but again after QE1/QE2, I wonder how much reserve of Asian countries still in USD

I think the stock mkt casino especially the US still gives you the most gains if you time it correctly and are not greedy. A better word would be discipline enough to exit when you hit the gains . Property still have at least upto Jan to see what awaits before we know if its going side way or up up up and away

STI breaches 3,000 mark
By Millet Enriquez | Posted: 15 February 2012 1340 hrs

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Straits Times Index (STI) breached the 3,000 level on Wednesday for the first time since August 2011.

The benchmark overcame a bout of early selling, setting a positive course after the first 35 minutes of trade.

It reached a high of 3,014.76 by 11am, a gain of 0.9 per cent.

By mid-day, the STI was trading 0.68 per cent higher at 3,007.80, with a gain of 20.39 points. Among the biggest movers are commodity stocks Golden Agri and Noble Group.

"The STI is proving to be a resilient market as investor attitude to risk improves off the back of a rosier outlook for the global economy, particularly in the US," said Justin Harper, Head of Research at IG Markets Singapore.

Signs of the STI breaking through the 3,000 mark had been eminent since late last week, "but the failure to agree on the Greek debt deal spooked markets globally on Friday," Mr Harper said.

With the Greek issue gaining some degree of stability, the STI has climbed for three straight days. It is 13 per cent higher for 2012.

In a February 15 report, CIMB upgraded its call for STI to Trading Buy, from Underweight and set a first-half 2012 target to 3,340. For 2013, it raised its STI target to 2,865.

The brokerage said "markets are no longer concerned with a banking crisis; the challenges from an economic slowdown are deemed less catastrophic."

China central banker backs euro, vows more support
Posted: 15 February 2012 1357 hrs

BEIJING: China's top central banker Wednesday expressed confidence in the euro and pledged to continue buying European sovereign debt, as the Asian giant seeks to shore up support for its biggest trading partner.

Central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan also repeated remarks by Premier Wen Jiabao that China was ready to get more involved in efforts to resolve the eurozone debt crisis, which is hurting demand for its exports.

"As Premier Wen Jiabao said yesterday at the China-EU summit, China will... continue to invest in European government bonds and will continue... to get more involved in solving the European debt crisis," Zhou said.

"We have confidence in the euro," he added, during a speech at the opening of a euro exhibition in Beijing also attended by European Union president Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso.

Wen told the European leaders on Tuesday that Beijing was considering using the International Monetary Fund and Europe's bailout funds to help address the continent's fiscal woes, without elaborating further.

Van Rompuy said Wednesday that European leaders "highly value" China's confidence in the region and vowed to do everything necessary to "maintain the euro and the financial stability of the eurozone".

China has made clear its growing concerns over the crisis in Europe, repeatedly urging EU leaders to get a grip on the situation, which the foreign ministry said this week had reached a "critical juncture".

Barroso said Europe was "putting our house in order" but noted it was a long process.

"This is a marathon not a sprint," he said Wednesday.

European leaders last year approached China, which holds the world's largest foreign exchange reserves, to invest in a bailout fund to rescue debt-stricken states.

So far China has made no firm commitment, but Zhou said Wednesday that the Asian powerhouse had not reduced the proportion of its investments in euro-denominated assets during the crisis.

"We believe that so long as all the European nations can solidify themselves together they will have the ability to solve the problems they face," Zhou said.

FTSE, DAX, CAC Called Up as GDP Figures Awaited

Staff Writer, CNBC.com

European markets (http://www.cnbc.com/id/42953603/) were expected to open slightly higher on Wednesday ahead of a number of important economic growth figures.

France, Germany and Italy will all release preliminary fourth-quarter gross domestic product figures for 2011 Wednesday morning. The overall euro zone GDP (http://www.cnbc.com/id/46378530/) figure, also released on Wednesday morning, is expected to show that the region's economy contracted in the last three months of 2011.
Worries over Greece will continue to weigh the market after a key euro zone meeting on Greece's bailout was canceled Tuesday night.
The Eurogroup (http://www.cnbc.com/id/46379316/) of euro zone finance ministers has called off a planned face-to-face meeting on Wednesday, saying that the Greek government had not provided the required written commitments to push through its new austerity package.
There will be a busy reporting day, with 2011 results from BNP Paribas, which will be watched for any indication of the health of the French banking system. Danone, Heineken and Clariant also report results.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner defended President Barack Obama's tax cut plans, saying that corporate tax reform would end "dozens and dozens" of tax breaks for businesses.
