Are there rules on condo renovation noise?

THERE are regulations governing the level of noise at construction sites, as well as the hours during which such noise is allowed.

Is there a similar set of rules to govern major renovation works within an existing condominium development?

My baby was woken up on Wednesday morning by very loud drilling and pounding noises. The whole apartment reverberated.

A call to the management office revealed that a unit two floors below was undergoing renovation, which included having the flooring changed.

The noise went on non-stop - save for a half-hour lunch break - from 9.40am till 5pm and was expected to last at least a few more days, according to the management office, whose renovations policy allows contractors to work from 9am to 6pm, Mondays to Saturdays.

While some noise is to be expected from renovation works, surely there must be some regulation governing the noise level?

Also, allowing work on Saturdays, from 9am to 6pm, would be disruptive to other residents' rest.
