Julius Baer moving in to Asia Square

JULIUS Baer is now one of the key office tenants of Asia Square Tower 1. The Swiss private banking group yesterday announced that it had signed an eight-year lease for 71,000 square feet of office space in the 43-storey commercial tower located in Marina Bay.

Asia Square, a twin-tower development, offers two million sq ft of Grade A office space, and is designed with floor plates spanning up to 35,000 sq ft. The development also has a five-star luxury hotel, a 100,000 square foot landscaped plaza and 60,000 sq ft of retail space. These factors 'will help to underscore the exclusivity of its high net worth clientele', Julius Baer said.

Thomas R Meier, a member of Julius Baer's executive board and Julius Baer's chief executive officer for Asia & Middle East, said: 'Singapore is important for our overall growth strategy in the region. Our new address at Asia Square will support this plan.'

He added: 'We will set up a flagship office where our clients and employees can enjoy the finest standards in client hospitality, privacy and working environment.'

This follows an earlier announcement that Julius Baer made on its plans to set up a trust company here, upon application and regulatory approval. The bank also wants to grow Asia into its second home market.

Jeremy Choy, project director of Asia Square, said: 'That a bank like Julius Baer sees the future of its operations in Singapore at Asia Square speaks volumes about the quality of our development and our approach to build from a human perspective.'

Since Asia Square's launch six months ago, leasing interest in the office space at Asia Square's Tower 1 has been gathering momentum.

Market sources suggest that over 50 per cent of the 1.26 million sq ft of net lettable office space in the tower is either taken or at an advanced stage of negotiation. Besides Julius Baer, which has signed up for the top two floors, it is understood that Bank Sarasin will lease the 25th floor.

The construction of Asia Square Tower 1 will be completed in June 2011 while Tower 2 is slated for completion in 2013.
